Cosmopolitan It happened in the basement of the Gardens Hotel, Piccadilly, Manchester back in January 2004. It was one of the infamous Akoustik Anarkhy parties, we approached the Nine Black Alps about releasing their debut single. Melodic then became the first label in a long line eventually offering the band various deals. The record company scrum ended with Island (UK) / Interscope (US) securing the band's signatures in July. Good on the lads as they kept their promise of this, their debut release being on Melodic.
Cosmopolitan will be available as a 7" (limited to 1000 copies) featuring the title track and additional Alps gem Over The Ocean, and will be accompanied by a 15-date UK tour. Having come together last year through a shared love of Elliot Smith and Sonic Youth, and taking their name from a line in a Sylvia Plath poem, Nine Black Alps made a very tasty name for themselves very quickly in a series of low-key, high-octane gigs in and around their hometown. From now to the release of the second 7" in January, Nine Black Alps will be starting work on their debut album and will be undertaking their first full string of UK dates. Meanwhile, you can catch Nine Black Alps at the following places…
Nine Black Alps are Sam Forrest (vocals, guitar), David Jones (guitar/bass), Martin Cohen (bass/guitar) and James Galley (drums) |
